Vebego colleagues look back on Jeugdvakantieland: happy faces and countless memories
From 11 to 22 August, Rotterdam Ahoy was all about Jeugdvakantieland. For ten days, the event hall transformed into the largest indoor play paradise in the Netherlands. With tens of thousands of visitors, the event was once again a great success.
Vebego Foundation was there together with Sam& voor alle kinderen. In our living room, children could get creative, play, and have fun at the photobooth, while parents received information about the support Sam& provides to families facing financial challenges.
Alongside the presence of the foundation, many Vebego colleagues volunteered their time. Two of them, Peter Paul Wiegmans (Managing Director at Vebego Zorgservice) and Marloes Oele (Operational Manager at Vebego Facility Solutions), share their experiences.
A joyful cacophony
For Peter Paul, the motivation to sign up was clear: “I think it fits perfectly with a family business like Vebego to contribute to society, whether that’s through the work we do or by supporting the foundation’s activities.”
A special moment for him took place at the book-sharing stand: “I handed out children’s books from Kinderzwerfboek. I noticed how genuinely happy the children were, eagerly looking at the titles and stories. Something so small can leave a big impression.”
'Just do it. At worst, it costs you four hours of your life, but you'll have made a lot of people happy.'
- Peter Paul Wiegmans, Managing Director at Vebego Zorgservice
For colleagues who hesitate because of time, his advice is simple: just give it a try. The reward is more than worth it.
All those smiling faces, that's priceless
For Marloes, it was also an easy decision to volunteer: “It’s wonderful to create a memorable day for children who don’t take that for granted. I’m happy to contribute to that.”
She was especially touched by the moments at the photobooth: “Children and families felt special there. Dressing up with accessories, taking a picture together, and going home with a lasting memory. At the book-sharing stand too, I was moved by the gratitude of families. Such a small gesture, yet so valuable.”
'All those smiling children's faces, that's priceless. You see parents enjoying it too, and that makes it extra special.'
- Marloes Oele, Operationeel Manager at Vebego Facility Solutions
On a personal note, the experience was eye-opening: “It makes me realize how fortunate I am with my own family, and that not everyone has that. Volunteering through the foundation helps sharpen that awareness.”
Making a difference together
Both Peter Paul and Marloes emphasize how meaningful it is to make a difference together as colleagues. The energy, involvement, and gratitude make volunteering at Jeugdvakantieland an unforgettable experience.
'Together, we can all play our part in bringing joy to others and offering support where it's needed.'
- Marloes Oele, Operationeel Manager at Vebego Facility Solutions
