Working together to make children’s birthdays possible

Some days simply remind you why you do what you do. The packing day at Stichting Jarige Job was one of those days. Colleagues from across the Vebego companies came together with one shared purpose: to ensure that children, for whom celebrating a birthday is not a given, can still enjoy a proper celebration. No grand gestures. No complex campaign. Just people working side by side, packing boxes. And yet the impact is immense.

Looking back on a special milestone
Last month, we marked an extraordinary milestone: the one millionth birthday box prepared by Stichting Jarige Job. It was a remarkable occasion, attended by Queen Máxima. For Josine, it was an experience she will never forget:

“It was incredibly special to be there as a volunteer for such an important milestone and even speak with the Queen about the work we do. It makes you even prouder of the impact we create together.” 

That same sense of pride and connection was present during this packing day. Perhaps without the royal spotlight, but just as meaningful.

Why this matters
For many families, celebrating a birthday is not something they can take for granted. There may be no budget for decorations, no money for presents, no treats to take into school. And on a day that should be full of joy, that reality can feel especially painful. A birthday box from Stichting Jarige Job changes that. Each box contains everything needed to make a child feel truly celebrated: decorations, treats and gifts. Thoughtful details that show a child they matter. That is exactly what we stand for.

But behind that number is more than a total. There was real energy in the room. Colleagues who had never met before worked together as though they had known each other for years. There was laughter, focus and the sharing of personal stories.

Moments like this reflect what Vebego Foundation is all about. Not only offering support when it is needed, but actively coming together to make a difference. Working towards a better tomorrow may sound ambitious. But sometimes it starts with something simple, like closing a box. And knowing that, somewhere soon, a child will be putting up birthday decorations with a smile.
