Third Community College Opened in Sri Lanka

Since 2005, the Vebego Foundation has successfully worked with partners in Sri Lanka. The Vebego Foundation’s mission to improve people’s lives and strengthen communities continues to guide us in all our efforts. Board members Rob Westerlaken and Ferry van den Boomen visited the country and will share some of the highlights of their recent trip here.

Kings Revival Children’s Home

Ferry explains: “During our visit to the Kings Revival Children’s Home, we had a heartwarming meeting with the management. It was clear that the financial challenges they face have a serious impact on their ability to continue to care for children. With the building in a state of disrepair and donations dwindling, something had to be done. The Vebego Foundation has therefore decided to support Kings Revival Childrens Home in its efforts to improve the living conditions of the girls who live there.”

Sambodhi House
“A visit to Sambodhi House left us both happy and worried. The renewed roof, funded by the Vebego Foundation, has greatly improved the living conditions of the 20 severely disabled people. No more leaks, no mouldy walls. However, our concerns are with the caretakers, especially two elderly women who care for the disabled day in and day out. If one of them falls away, we have to think about the future of these children.

Community College Nikaweratiya
“At our Community College in Nikaweratiya, we experienced once again the community’s gratitude and joy for the opportunities of vocational education and tutoring. A meeting with more than 200 women produced lively exchanges of questions and answers. We are proud of the successful projects that have emerged from this initiative, where people can start new businesses and lift themselves out of poverty.”

Community College Tanamalwila
“The success of our Community College in Nikaweratiya led us to decide to open a third branch in Tanamalwila, one of the poorest areas of Sri Lanka. The recent opening was a milestone, where we could extend the positive impact of our work to a new community!”

The Vebego Foundation has decided to discontinue its building trips but remains closely involved in projects abroad. After some good internal discussions, it was decided to continue the trip in order to review the progress of ongoing projects and to maintain contacts.
