Radiant Success Nikaweratiya

It is with great joy that we share the splendid news about the extraordinary success of our Community College programme in the heart of Sri Lanka. Thanks to the dedication of our valued partners Arthacharya, the Sampath Foundation and Stichting Wilde Ganzen, the Community College in Nikaweratiya is thriving like never before.

Recent monitoring of our programme has revealed impressive results that testify to the positive impact on the participants’ lives. Not only did a remarkable 88% of the participants – more than 100 people – find a job, but many also successfully started their own business. What is even more remarkable is that 80% of the participants have successfully completed the training, which has led to both successful and unsuccessful job opportunities.

Unfortunately, there were some barriers to success, especially financial barriers to purchasing training materials and transportation to the Community College. Nevertheless, we were able to support 53% of the successful participants through micro-financing opportunities, which not only improve their own lives, but also contribute to the growth of the Community College.

In other exciting news, our newly built Community College in Tanamalwila recently opened its doors, allowing us to say goodbye to the rental location. This will free up additional financial resources for the further development of the programme. This is a crucial step, especially since Tanamalwila is among the poorest areas in Sri Lanka.

While we celebrate these successes, we also look to the future with great anticipation. We are pleased to share that we are actively exploring with all our partners how and in what timeframe we can make the Community Colleges in Nikaweratiya, Wellawaya and Tanamalwila self-sustainable. This is an important step in our ongoing pursuit of positive change and the possibility of establishing new colleges. Together, let us continue to build a future full of opportunity and hope for those who need it most.
